A level between two main levels is called an "egg".  Kind of like hidden features in a dvd are called "Easter eggs".  (Easter eggs, hidden...get it?)

When you find an egg, sometimes it gives you straightforward information.  Sometimes it asks you to do something more to get to the next level.  Sometimes, it might try to fool you.  It never hurts to check the source of an egg page if you're not sure!
