    Love Comes Softly Series

Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke.  I have read this series many times, but I thought that I would like to read through them again.  I was wondering if anyone else had read these or if anyone would be interested in reading them.  There are eight in the series: Love Comes Softly, Love's Enduring Promise, Love's Long Journey, Love's Abiding Joy, Love's Unending Legacy, Love's Unfolding Dream, Love Takes Wing, and Love Finds A Home.

Have they made movies out of this series...the title sounds familiar?

Yes, the Hallmark Channel has created a series of movies loosely (and I really mean loosely) based on the book series.  I have seen four of the five made.  They are good movies, but not if you base them on following the books.

I haven't read them although I would like to some day. I've read two of Janette Oke's books and loved them! I have watched the first 4 movies and my sisters (who have read the books) have told me that they get further and further from the books. They should have just changed the names! Big Smile

I haven't read any of the Love Comes Softly books...but I did read 3 I think of her others and really liked them!  Like Lady A, I've seen the first 4 movies...and I can see how they would get away from the books.  I think they should have stuck with the actor they used as Missy in the second movie...she just fits the role so much better I think.

I haven't read the Love Comes Softly books, but since I've heard quite a few good reports about them, I'd like to read them sometime. I've seen the first movie, and I really liked it.

I started reading the first book, kind of lost interest, it was a long time ago. Purused the next two or three books. Have watched the first tree, dying to watch the next two. I have read two and a half of her other books, they were pretty good.

    Re: Love Comes Softly Series

Well, if anyone is interested in reading the books with me, I plan to start reading Love Comes Softly on Wednesday.  That will give you a few days to get a copy from a local library, bookstore, etc. so we can start discussing it.  I was thinking about 3 chapters a day.  There are 32 chapters and they range from 5-8 pgs judging from the first few chapters.  That should be an 11 week read.  If that seems too slow let me know and we can amp it up a little.

By the way, I know that in our area the Hallmark Channel is having a marathon of the series on Saturday, December 15th.  If you would like to start a discussion about the movies let's create a thread on the regular part of the Son of Liberty forum so that the people who want to read the book and do not want to have spoilers as to what is coming up before they read it.

So, am I the only one reading?  Well, if anyone wants to read and discuss the books feel free to come on in and sit for a while.  I will be more than willing to discuss wherever or whenever you want to join me.  Oh, and sorry but I misspoke about the time it will take to read this.  32 chapters at 3 chapters a day is 11 days not weeks!  Embarrassed

I am curious. Where do you find these books? And how expensive are they? I have watched 3 of the movies on the Hallmark channel and I'm looking to find the books so that I can read them and see what the movies missed. The movies were very good and I'm sure the books are much better. Thank you for your time.

    Rosebud2975,

Check at your library, they're almost sure to have them, I would be surprised if they didn't.  How expensive?  Well, here is the first one on Amazon.  Hope this helps!

    Re: Love Comes Softly Series

I got all mine at a used book store near my home. They are still being printed and most book stores and Christian book stores should have them. They are so much better than the movies. They are very different, though. So much more about the characters in the movies, plus you do not lose the other children of Clark and Marty's. In the movies you never see the two boys they show of Clark and Marty after the second film. They actually had several more children.
