I actually left it in as "MARI" and it took it lol... but MARS works as well (no clue why MARI worked tho)

Which leaves the missing word in the final hint as Granite

Granite is the first word in the final hint, but there's got to be a mistake in question #4.

#4 is represented on the clue map as being in NW MN; Olivia is far south of this, west of the twin cities.  Furthermore, Olivia is not located between the referenced clues ("mud" for Mud Lake and "thief" for Thief River Falls).  I agree with the previously poster in that the only city I can find that makes any geographic sense according to both the question's clues and the location on the map is Grygla, but this answer does not give the correct letter to arrive at "Granite".  So... must be ThanksUSA's mistake.

There is also a thief lake & mud is the most popular name for lakes in MN

 

Plus my key is completely gold, so my answers must all be right - I have actually talked with a Ms. Stark from ThanksUSA (last night) because I had sent in a bug report on the one with the ebook.  She explained to me that the keys go full gold only when all the answers are filled in correctly.

That's quite interesting, because my key is all gold as well and my answer of Grygla is still in there, so by that logic all of my answers must be right as well.  Since both answers cannot be right there must be a bug, as I stated previously.

 The correct spelling of the correct answer is GRIGLA.

I couldn't get my #9 key to turn completely Gold no matter what I did - until now.  I had tried several different answers for the #4 question - Grygla, Grigla & Olivia.  It didn't seem to matter which I used, the key stayed partially filled.

I decided to do a little more searching but I couldn't find a spelling for the town Grygla with an "i" as Grigla, anywhere online.  All the clues, seem to fit that town - but the key would ot turn completely gold using either spelling.  So I tried Olivia again and I finally got the key to turn all gold.

I don't know if there is a bug or if the clues really are for Grygla.  All I know is that using Olivia for the #4 question finally got my key to turn all gold.

 I am still having the same problem with # 7 & 8 keys(not turning completely gold).  If anyone had the same problem and fixed it, please let me know how.
