Yet another question: how will the Christians subdue the earth? Preaching God's Word will not subdue it. For only those who partake and eat God's Word (salvation) can be subdued by the Word. Do you believe the whole world will become Christian in the end (that doesn't seem Biblical at all)? Will the Christians have to use force (weapons) to subdue it? Wow!
I believe we are near-sighted in world history if the Civil War is elevated to such a height that it is deemed a big let-down for a progression toward your final vision.
How will Christians subdue the earth? By implementing the Law of God in every sphere of life in which they have been called. God's Law has instructions for how to live in every arena of life. Fathers, mothers, children, statesmen, pastors, elders, deacons, entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists, physicians, gardeners, architects, stock brokers, builders, contractors, importers, exporters, judges, law enforcement officers, presidents, kings, princes, governors, manufacturers, farmers, ranchers, computer programmers, film makers, computer designers and builders, astronauts, pilots, bus drivers, mechanics, insurance salesmen, consultants, lawyers, authors, poets, sculpturs, journalists, musicians, reporters, artists, bankers, economists, physicists, bakers, tanners, millers, cobblers, blacksmiths, locksmiths, surveyors, horse breeders, seamstress, mariners, soldiers, sailors, marines, teachers, professors, researchers and EVERY other vocation (note that I left out youth pastor) are given instructions on how they are to guide their respective fields, according to the Law of God. This is how Christians are to subdue the earth and take dominion over it. This is what Jesus meant when He said in the Great Commission "teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." That's Genesis to Revelation, OT and NT, submitting to all the instructions, all the exhaustive details of God's most perfect Word. So, yes, preaching God's Word, ALL OF IT, will absolutely subdue the earth, once devoted and genuine Christians are placed by God into every field of life. In the context of this conversation, we are speaking of civil governments. Civil governments are subdued by Christians when God's Law is the Law above all laws of the particular nation. If Christians do not seek to apply God's Law to government, then what standard are they to use to guide the government? Man's wisdom? Science? International moral consensus? God's Word and history show us again and again where these will lead - tyranny. Now, you and other pre-millennialists may have given in to the idea that satan and tyranny will win in this earth, but when I look at the Almighty, Risen, Eternal King of Kings, Ascended to the Right Hand of God Almighty, Who made all things from NOTHING with only His OMNIPOTENT Word, then I see VICTORY, not defeat. As the waters cover the sea, so will His glory fill the earth, and He will accomplish this through Holy Spirit-powered widespread, previously unprecedented revival extending into all peoples and nations. This is the Bible's optimistic glorious future where Jesus the King is Victorious in the earth in history.
No, the whole world will not become Christian, but most will, and at that time, those who are His will not have the "near-sighted" view of most small-visioned Christians of today. Today's prominent unbiblical, truncated view of the Christian life believes that God's teachings really only apply to our thoughts, homes and relationships. The rest of life is up to our own whims and wits to figure out. The Christian of that future time will agree and practice the ideas of comprehensive Christianity expressed throughout the Bible and summarized so well by Chesterton: (a paraphrase) Christ looks at every square inch of the universe and says, "Mine." At that time, the church of God will be the most revered and respected institution on the earth- nations and institutions will look to the church, to God's Word, for instruction, guidance and wisdom.
Whether a pre or post millennialist, simple Ten Commandment understanding combined with humble historical study will lead to the obvious conclusion that Lincoln was a tyrant and a bigot, that the whole nation was in sin in regard to slavery, and that the God-given right to self-govern was trampled by the North. This biblical concept, the God-given right to self-government, locally controlled, will always stand in conflict with statism, which has ever been the way of satan and his evil ways, most recently advanced and furthered by Marxism, especially via the masterful efforts of the Frankfourt School. Today's American government and church and home is primarily Marxist. Let us hope and pray that God will have mercy on us. If not, we need not fret. God's Kingdom is bigger than America. He does not need any nation.
The existence of God is proven by the impossibility of the opposite. GB
