Re: Welcome to the Room of Requirment!

To end of the Harry Potter series which has given my family so much more than the story of a boy wizard, I say thank you.  My daughter has been given the gift of reading.  I was told she may never read at grade level and at the time was going to be tested for dyslexia.  Thankfully she found Harry Potter.  She had found something she wanted to read and within a short period of time was reading at or above grade level with no sign of dyslexia.  She now reads at college levels and is in honors English.  To my son who can read anything put in front of him but cannot form the written word.  He has sat down to write.  Hopefully, his struggles too will be behind him.  I'll fill him in on plagiarism later. :)  Thank you J. K. Rowling for giving my children gifts that they were unable to find without you.

The books brought us to tears and gave us laughter.  The Deathly Hallows brought answers to questions we had wanted for so long.  The epilogue created as many questions as it answered.  Were we surprised at Snape and Dumbledore, you betcha.  We were right and wrong about Harry.  We were just as proud of Neville as his grandmother was.  Kreacher and Doby who would have thought...  Way to go Mrs. Weasley!  Ron and Hermoine, you can only hope to have two friends like them

Re: Welcome to the Room of Requirment!

Years ago, I read an article about this book that was so huge in England, but I didn't really know much about it. I bought a copy for my son for Christmas - and boy was he ticked.  What did he want with a dumb book.  Then he was grounded from all things electronic and he had no choice but to read.  After his week of grounding was up, he was reading that "dumb book" for the fifth time.  He was totally hooked and has been an avid reader ever since.  He read his first book so many times, it actually fell apart.

This time, however, he did not read the book in one sitting.  He would read for awhile, then put the book down.  He didn't want it to end!!  It actually took him three days to read it all.  Since last Saturday (when we stopped at 7:00 AM on our way out of town for vacation to pick up his book), he has read it three more times.

Re: Welcome to the Room of Requirment!

Ok so is it ok to talk about the book yet.  I got it on the Saturday release and was finished on Monday.  Since I'm a big girl now, I had to actually go to work and not read the book during that time(which was very, very hard).

The beginning of the book felt like an american writer was penning (sp?) it.  Though later in the week, Rowling stated that she wrote the ending before she wrote the rest of the book.  Depending on how early she wrote the ending, it could account for the americanization (or less UK) of the chapters written later.

    What do you think?

Finally finished the new book and loved it! Very satisfying and neatly tied up. Go Neville! Go Mrs. Weasley! Liked the Snape/Dumbledore explanation, finding out what the hallows were, and the end of Voldemort especially. I think my patronus would be a floppy-eared spaniel!!! Or a hyper chicken! Oh, I don't know....
