I would like to know what makes you think that the South did not do just that? I've been studying the War for a very long time (wrote about and debated it numerous times) and I've found that the South was MUCH more righteous than the North!

 Let me clarify something, you all:

I am not a Unionist, Yankee, etc.  I think that the South was a whole lot more righteous.  If the South seceded again, the circumstances were right, and they were fighting for the right reasons, I probably would join them; maybe even become a general.  But we must face it that God is always the judge, and will give victory to those who will best fulfill his plan.

Now try and argue with that.

The more research I have done in recent days I find it more and more difficult to generalize in this War.  I have almost come to the conclusion that referring to the South as some unified force is also not possible.  I have already mentioned the governors of Georgia and North Carolina.  Just a few minutes ago I stumbled upon Governor Pendleton Murrah of Texas.  Unlike the other two governors, he was a huge supporter of the rebel cause (even so that he hoped Texas residents would continue the War after Lee surrendered).  However, he on at least one occasion refused to send men to fight in the East.

Likewise, Jefferson Davis’s vice-president, Alexander Stephens, broke publicly with Davis because he felt that Davis was making “arbitrary arrests” and was given more power than the English Parliament had given to the king.

And if your head is not in a whirl already you read the following quote from Stephens:

And what can be said about General Robert Lee?  He did not wish to secede at all.  General Scott had even suggested that Lee be a top commander in the Union army.

Mixed emotions and mixed aliances make it difficult to generalize.  That is what makes the United States of America great.  We can be unified in our agreement to disagree.

Well, the godless Assyrians carried Israel off into slavery. And the baby-killer Babylonians carried Judah and scattered her to the wind. And we know for certain that both of these were examples of God's stated will.

I heard a very wise man say recently something to the effect of, the Confederacy reached its immortal state after it supposedly died. And I add: It can never die to the end of time.

 The Confederacy was supposedly defeated, but what many people do not realize is that it still lives on in the hearts of people like Florida Cracker and myself. The Confederacy in name is dead, (at least for a time) but the ideas that birthed it still live on and will never die. Is that more clear?

That is a very strong statement that gives a lot of support to many groups that are in no way worthy of being supported by anyone.  I am reminded of some of the topics that were brought up at the end of the hunt.

In comparison to the total population of the South, very, very few people feel as you and Florida Cracker (where is he?) do.  I think it's around 1 in 50.

True, but that doesn't make it any less real! Besides, we're growing slowly, but surely as more and more people learn the true history of the "Civil" War. 

Well... the promotion of forced sterilization and other evil actions are no longer "accepted" socially, therefore are dead in name.  Your argument defends that those things are, in fact, not dead, live on and will never die.
