Ahhh! All the same to me! just as long as the word sounds like a word that starts with a long A a soft B in the middle and ends with any letter that makes the high E sound. For all i know your name could be spelled like this ABE! Big Smile

In past posts several have been quick to discredit Lincoln.  However, little conversation has occurred concerning Jefferson Davis.  Was he a great leader?  Did he fall prey to some of the errors that Lincoln is accused of?  Did he violate state-rights?  What say ye?

Hmmmmm, I tend to pay more attention to his generals than to Davis himself.

"Did he fall prey to some of the errors that Lincoln is accused of?" I seriously doubt it, but I as I haven't studied him that much I couldn't say for sure.

"Did he violate state-rights?" Um, this guy gave his LIFE FOR state-rights! I would find it hard to believe that he violated the very thing he sacrificed so much to preserve!

Re: Different names for the War Between the States

There are lots of books about Jefferson Davis. According to the most reliable things I've read and are backed up with letters from correspondence are that he fought  with his Confederate staff in Richmond  and died in Beauvior, a crazy man where he wrote his memoir in a cottage. You would expect to lead a rebellion he would be a great man and at least have some military tact but he didn't. Robert E. Lee was the man who really led the war effort for the Confederate Cause BUT DON'T BELIEVE WHAT I SAY! go study it for yourself - look at the letters he wrote back and forth between people he knew and see what they said...

Yes. I've gone by Abbie for most of my life, but several years ago I decided I prefer Abigail. But it's not that big of a deal and people still call me Abbie.Smile

I think most people tend to. It would be very interesting to do a study on the forgotten parts of the WNA, sort of like how we learned about the forgotten people in the Revolution and at Jamestown through the Hunt.

Yes, it would be! One of my books has a section about forgotten blacks of the Confederacy, it is really amazing to see how devoted some of them were!

I should find out more about Jeff Davis, I know very little about him.

First I'm looking on my library's website, to see if they have anything good. Not a lot of luck so far. I found a fairly promising book on Varina Davis, and I'm looking through the ones about J. right now.

I actually already have 3 or 4 books on hold and checked out, so I'm not going to borrow anything just yet.
