XBOX TIPS & Tricks

Yes, I did notice that I misspellled my last title and put "dead" instead of "death"

Bioshock.

Amazing game. From the moment I started I knew I was in for a ride. I popped it in, and I played seven hours straight. I missed two meals and didn't have time to shower before heading out for dinner that evening. Now, I have it for the PC, but they sell it for the 360, so i figured I would write it up.

The graphics are stunning, particularly the water effects. (Which is a good thing, considering the game is played in a submerged city) The makers did a fantastic job setting the mood using music and the decor. It's creepy sneaking around halls of a run down casino plaza, old record music playing from some hidden player. All around you is the evidence of a recently fought battle, trash cans still rattling down the stairs from the quick escape of the survivors.

The weapons in the game are the standard FPS types, Shotty, pistol, machine gun, rocket, wrench/crowbar, sniper/crossbow. But what stands out is the most used weapon is actually your own body. Through Plasmids, you gain powers such as fire from your fingertips, lightening, freezing blasts, and a whole bunch of others. It's a real treat freezing the oncoming mob in place with a few freezing attacks, then unloading your machine gun on them, shattering them into an innumerable amount of ice cubes.

I highly recommend this game, but I don't think it is good as Half life 2, which I thought I read it was coming out for the 360 sometime. Maybe not, i don't remember.

Anyway, buy this game.

My xbox...red ring of dead...

While playing the mind-expanding game of Viva Pinata, my xbox shuddered and then froze up. Where the pleasant, soft glow of green used to flash was a violent blood colored circle.

Oh how I wish I could be jumping around my basement like fool, rocking out with Guitar hero, adoring fans screaming for an encore. Sweating, I would look up to accept their invitation to bring down the house. Before beginning, I look around at the broken furniture around me. They were victims of power of loud music and a kid with a plastic guitar in his hand.

I miss my little white box of love.

And...I'm back

Hey all! I was out of the country in the heart of the Dominican Republic for a few weeks and then forgot my password. But now I am back!

I recently began playing Gears of War. After the initial shock of watching my behemoth of a man use a chainsaw bayonet to tear a creature limb from limb, I fell in love with the game. Sure the story is virtually unexplained and the characters a clique and stereotypical, but the gameplay is fantastic. Diving behind cement barriers, dodging gunfire and grenades, popping around corners brandishing my trusty shotgun, daring anyone to challenge me, it has been an exciting week of slaying the Locust Horde.

But to balance the disturbing amount of sheer gore in that game, i opted to buy Viva Pinata today. A buddy of mine has the game and (shamefully) admitted to being addicted to it. From what I've gathered it's a beginner's level god-sim, basically Zoo Tycoon for the 360. But my friend assures me that the cartoony graphics hide the complexity and in depth puzzles the game provides. It's entertaining and simple enough for anyone who can hold a controller and difficult enough to cause some of the more developed gamers to lose sleep. (Again, shamefully confessed by my friend)

Cheap Tricks to watch for...

"Hello, class and welcome to another segment of MAP’s guide to the gray areas of online gameplay and how to counter them if at all possible. We have already covered the bunny jump and camping but today we’ll be talking about one that I discovered for myself recently, while playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live. I wasn’t sure what this is called, but I asked around and found it is commonly dubbed “the standby trick,” and this one is clearly unfair." via Myarcadeplanet.com

Hej

(Thats Swedish for hello)

Hey, this here is a place for xbox junkies to read up on events and articles revolving around our favorite way to kill time. Reviews, both professional (like Gamespot or something) and personal (myself) will be posted here.

Although I'm fairly active in the xbox community, I shy away from the sports games and more toward RPG and action games, so I won't have much personal experience while writing about them.

I am 8-Bit

"For most of us, the first word that we associate isn’t video games. After looking at this art exhibit, maybe it should be. Gallery Nineteen Eighty Eight in Los Angeles currently is exhibiting “I am 8-Bit,” which features video game related art. Included is the link to their online display. My personal favorite is Mario Envy by Matt Dangler."

The Future of Gaming

We have all lapsed into our own fantasy realm of what the future will be like from time to time, but these imaginative concepts may be getting closer to reality, at least when it comes to the gaming industry. Each new advance has pushed the limit far beyond what the prior generation had thought possible, but what if where we are out now is just the start? What if the future will look back at Gears of War with respect for the “retro” classic? It hard to imagine that a game so innovative and graphically appealing could be the pong of the next era…

Technology is advancing more rapidly than ever, and the possibilities seem endless, but what will be the next big breakthrough? While it can be argued they sacrificed graphics for gameplay, Nintendo has brought about one of the more innovative ideas of the next gen with the Wii-mote. The motion sensitive design has led to gamers playing in a way we would never have expected twenty years ago. Please bear with us, as we take you on a trip to behold some of the most breathtaking breakthroughs in gaming.

Looking for Additional Writers and editers

We are a fairly new site that is quickly making a splash in the gaming news realm. We are looking for qualified individuals who would be an asset to our current, robust writing staff. No experience is necessary, only a talent within the field of writing and the desire to gain experience that will help you later in life as you may pursue a career in this rigorous field. At the moment, all positions with in our growing community are unpaid and volunteer based, however we are working on something so that in the future we may be able to compensate our team through gaming paraphernalia.

Current openings include Lead Xbox 360 Writer, Lead Ps3 Writer, Lead Wii Writer, as well as a few Junior Writer positions within each of those platforms. We also are in need a few Content editors for each platform.

Compensation: Assumed Volunteer

Where’s Cain?

For those of you who don’t already know, I’ve been extremely busy due to a new site I am helping to start up, www.myarcadeplanet.com . This site aims to bring the latest gaming information and a great community of gamers together creating “The ultimate hang out spot”. We are working diligently to have a constant stream of content flowing into the site. To do that, we are looking to expand our team.

We are looking for some additional staff for the site. We need some additional writers and editors. To be considered you will have to have a quick interview with me. Previous experience is helpful but unnecessary. However, we will request some previously written work. We also need some graphic design staff. A portfolio of work you can show us is necessary for this.

Contact me for more info.

Halo 2 Glitches - You can win a Wii

Halo 2 Glitches – Midship and Lockout Superjumps

You probably won’t see anybody doing these superjumps in a matchmaking game, and the reason is that they aren’t really useful. But if you are one of those people that likes to start a custom game just for glitching, these superjumps can be pretty fun.

Midship Superjump

   1. Go to the top floor (where the flag spawns) of either base, both bases work for the superjump.
   2. Look towards the airlift, and the hole that lets you drop down to the lower level. Next to the hole is kind of a pillar. Hold crouch and walk into the wall and the pillar.
   3. Keep holding forward and crouch. Then stop crouching but continue to hold forward. You should stay crouched because of the angle of the wall.
   4. Now turn around and run to the front of the base. You need to jump off the ledge and land in the middle. You have to land on that little raised surface around the “bowl” in the middle.
   5. When you land make sure you are not holding forward or pressing any buttons. Once you get launched, hold forward and you can land on the top middle platform.

Lockout Superjump

   1. Go to second level of the sniper tower. Jump onto the corner of the top of the ramp.
   2. Crouch and hold forward, walking into the stone wall.
   3. Keep holding forward and crouch. Then stop crouching but continue to hold forward. You should stay crouched because of the angle of the wall.
   4. Stop holding forward, and then jump backwards. Turn and look down the ramp. Run and jump, and land on the flat part of the railing at the bottom of the ramp.
   5. When you land you need to keep holding forward, otherwise the superjump won’t work. You will get launched really high, so it is kind of hard to control where you land, but try to land on the elbow (the ramp below the airlift).
