Paramedit Charged in Alleged Travolta Plot...
OCALA, Florida, January 26 (UPI) -- A Bahamian ambulance driver has been charged for his alleged role in an unsuccessful plot to extort $25 million from film stars John Travolta and Kelly Preston.
Minister of National Security Tommy Turnquest told Usmagazine.com that Tarino Lightbourne was formally charged Monday with attempting to extort and conspiracy to extort.
The 47-year-old paramedic pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is the second person arrested in connection with the alleged scheme.
Although details regarding what the suspects asked for and what they said they would do if their demands weren't met have not been released, some media reports have claimed the plot somehow was linked to the death of the Travoltas' 16-year-old son, Jett, in the Bahamas earlier this month.
Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater was arrested on charges of abetment to extort and conspiracy to extort. Released Friday on $40,000 bail, Bridgewater has resigned from her office, but insisted she will fight the "untrue and unfair charges," Usmagazine.com said.
Bridgewater is expected to be arraigned on the charges Wednesday in Nassau Magistrate's Court, E! News said.
Jett died, reportedly of a seizure, on Jan. 2. He was cremated and his ashes brought to Ocala, Fla., where his family has a home and where a funeral was held for him.

American Idol 8: Auditions Round 4
21 January 09 07:24 PM | Zach | with no comments

Tonight we hit the ground running in Churchill town with thousands of American Idol hopefuls. Wageing their bets in front of the judges. Ross the super nerd crosses the line and sucks big time. Joanna takes an emotional journy. Aaron fires up the judges. And the good ole boy has a few choice words for Simon. After a couple of miss strides. Some will break away from the past. But who will stumble at the finish line and who will fast track it to Hollywood? Let the race begin. This is American Idol!

The next stop is Louisville, Kentucky!

Contestant 1.
Tiffany Shed was a sure shot at going through to Hollywood according to her parents. She looks kinda ugly. She says she'll walk out with a positive attitude even if she doesnt get a golden ticket. Singing A Hero Lies In You. Yikes! Simon said it was like 22 horses vs a donkey and she was the donkey. As she walked out, she was in tears. Complaining and blah blah blah. Oooh, make it stop! I think my ear are bleeding!

Contestant 2.
She has been trying to make it into the music business for years. She's hoping today's audition will give her the lucky break she needs. Singing Be The One. I really like her. Simon and Paula gives her a Yes. Kara and Randy as well! I think she's got a lot of potential! I could see her in the top 12. Writing down her name Joanna Pacitti.... lets see her in the top 12!

Coming up, Ross the super nerd! And we have the threat on Simon's life as well! Stay tuned...

Contestant 3.
Mark Mud. Oh this is the guy who threatens Simon. He's had two bad accidents in the car. And almost died five times. Simon asks what kind of gun he has. It was actually his cell phone. Paula says he's not bad, this isnt the right competition for him. Simon said what is? Wheel of fortune. As he leaves he says "Take care and be careful." Simon and the judges took that as a threat.

Contestant 4.
Singing Can't Get Enough. Brent Keith Smith is a country star... much better than the guy before! He was very good. Simon said the song was ridiculous, a bit busterish. Paula and Kara went under the table cuz Simon wouldn't let them talk... All four gave a Yes! I would say he's on my watch list as well...

Break time! Reminder that the new series Lie to Me premiers after Idol!

Time for the failure montage! Ouch!

Contestant 5.
Never had a piano lesson and four years later, he's a really good piano player. Now lets see how he's in singing. Singing I Don't Wanna Be. He sounds more country than Simon says he reminds him of Elliott Yamin from a few seasons ago and I totally agree with him! He's gotta work on believing in himself. All four judges give him the go and he's off to Hollywood!

Contestant 6.
Ross something or other. He considers him an academic. He's a freak. He says it was phsically impossible to learn to sing but he's been using Youtube videos to help him out! He just got a scratchy throat. He hopes he can sing through it... Oh boy. One of the many thing's he enjoy's is singing. Very low.... The judges sing along. The judges offer him a sip of water. The guard went to get him some but he walked up and started drinking out of Paula's cup! They give him a second shot. Simon shoots him down and he gets 4 no's...

Ten people made it through to Hollywood on Day 1 in Louisville!

Time for another break Smile

Contestant 7.
She's from Memphis. She reminds me a little bit of Taylor Swift... She says the competition would mean everything to her. Singing Dr. Feel Good. She has a pretty good voice. Simon said she was good and had a commercial voice. All 4 give her a Yes!

Time for a break already?

Contestant 8.
Got a home boy Aaron Williamson. He's a screamer! He's pumped! I dont think he's got what it takes tho.... He's here to be the America's Next top Idol... lol. Woo! He stunk! Had a lot of enthusiasm tho! I mean a LOT. Shot cuts to Ryan saying "What the Hell?" Simon said it was like the fire alarm going off. Simon also says he should do something that involves shouting. Paula said he didnt have it "ready yet". He says it broke his heart....

Contestant 9.
Rebecca Garcia. Singing Before He Cheats. Isn't that a rule? Don't sing a song by an Idol??? Kara said she was voted most humerous in High School so this had to be a joke. Rebecca started crying.

A good montage for once! 8 more contestants made it through so far today.

After the break we meet the person they have been talking about all show. Does she have what it takes to make it all the way? Stay tuned!!

Contestant 10.

Her name's Leneshe Young singing a song she wrote. She sounds like Beyonce. Simon really liked her including her song she wrote! Paula really liked the lyrics. Randy said she's what the competition needs. Kara gives her a yes. Paula says No.... Just kidding! She has great potential to make it all the way.

I'm going to go on the record and say top 3 right here.

1-21 Dish: The Day after the Inauguration
21 January 09 08:18 AM | Zach | with no comments

Well I wanted to be in DC reporting live for ya of the events happening yesterday, but the local FOX station didn't pick me as a "local blogger" to take on the task. Woulda been fun too! So I DVRed the Inauguration on CNN and FOX and I hope to watch all 10 hours of it this weekend.

Also, hopefully tomorrow, I will have some pics of the ice sculputures that were done on campus this past week! They are really cool!

Michelle Obama wows in Inaugural Gown...
First lady Michelle Obama wore a white, floor-length gown by Taiwan-born designer Jason Wu to balls celebrating her husband's inauguration Tuesday.
Barack Obama, the 44th president, looked dapper in what Usmagazine.com said was a custom tuxedo made by Chicago's Hart Schaffner Marx that was accented by a white tie.
The Obamas reportedly were expected to attend 10 official inauguration night celebrations.
Historian Carl Sferrazza Anthony told The Dallas Morning News Michelle Obama's ensemble selection was "a balancing act between being a queen and a commoner."
"The inaugural gown is a metaphor for the first lady role," Anthony added. "They reflect around the world an image of our country."
"Michelle Obama once more does something new and fresh (by) working with an emerging fashion star and turning Jason Wu overnight into a household name," Us Weekly fashion director Sasha Charnin Morrison said of the first lady's choice to wear a single-shouldered frock Tuesday night. "This type of dress shape/silhouette is something that's completely unexpected. (It's) vibrant and aspirational, full and gorgeous. No one else in the past would have been this striking, this ravishing or been able to pull this look off. She's bringing sexy back."
Usmagazine.com said Barack Obama's wife wore a gold sheath and matching jacket by Cuban-born designer Isabel Toledo for the ceremony in which the new president took his oath of office earlier in the day. The first lady also wore green gloves from J. Crew, while her daughters donned coats from the popular store to stave off the winter chill.

Stars Line Up for BET Inauguration Special...
Jamie Foxx, Nas, Kerry Washington, Akon, T.I. and Young Jeezy have signed on to appear on the "Yes We Will! BET's Inauguration Celebration" TV special.
The one-hour show is slated to air on BET Tuesday night, with Nick Cannon acting as host.
The special is intended to "commemorate the massive voter turnout and what African-Americans are committed to doing in order to implement the change initiated by Barack Obama's presidency," the network said in a news release.
The special is to feature performances by Common and Jazmine Sullivan, as well as live footage from BET's inaugural ball. It will also take a look back at the election and campaign that led the way to Obama becoming the first black president of the United States, BET said.

I think that's all the inauguration news I have today...

Police Probing Travolta Extortion Plot...
Lawyers for actor John Travolta and Kelly Preston say police in the Bahamas are looking into two individuals' alleged attempt to extort money from the couple.
The film stars' only son, Jett, died, reportedly of a seizure, on January 2 at the age of 16 while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas. His body was cremated and ashes brought back to Florida where his parents and 8-year-old sister have a home and where his funeral was held.

20 January 09 07:22 PM | Zach | 1 comment(s)

Tonight we're heading to the city by the bay. Where big personalities and high fashion are still all the rage. We'll get an anatomy lesson and share a heartwarming story of a son's love.

This is American Idol!

San Fransisco California tonight! In previous seasons, we found Katherine McPhee and the ever favorite William Hung here!

Contestant 1.
Some lady from Puerto Rico. She's a full time singer and all that jazz... She thinks she's the next Idol. Her friend is a Psychic who told her she's going to be in the Top 12. And she has the most ANNOYING LAUGH IN THE WORLD. Her speech makes me want to puke. I dont think she'll even make it to Hollywood. Singing Never Loved a Man. She's not half bad. Simon says that she could do a lot of good things, just not singing. I dont like her singing at all. Simon says the trouble is she tries to copy the originals. Paula gives her a Yes. Randy gives her another Yes. Kara says she likes her vibe. I think they put her through to Hollywood just for the drama. I hope she doesnt make it to the top 12.  Her ego is is way too big for the Idol stage. Oh and if she laughs one more time.... shoot me.

Break time Smile Reminder that tomorrow is the season premiere of Lie to Me! After Idol!!

Montage time of the sucky singers! First one was weird, second was boring.

Contestant 2.
Weirdo with another annoying laugh! He says his coat will get him through to Hollywood. Singing Stars. Kinda funny, but it hurts my ears a bit as well too lol. Randy says it was Wild and gives it a No because it was torture. Simon says the outfit has bad as he's seen. Something about the carpet matching the drapes... All No's...

Contestant 3.
A family man. He says his whole family watches the show so he thinks he has what it takes to make it through. Simon says it's not going to work. They want to see the kids... so the kids march in... They let him sing again. Simon asks what the kids think, they both say "Hollywood". Simon said No. Paula said Yes. Kara said Yes. Randy said....Yes! He made it through because of his kids! I dont know if it's my speakers, or the judges have a bad ear this year. I dont see what the judges are seeing in the contestants...

Break time again! No popcorn this week, I'm still full from dinner.

Another reminder that Fringe resumes its season right after Idol tonight!!

Contestant 4.
Rubix Cube solver.... I always wanted to get one just to try and figure out the trick to solving it. Sings in a reallllllllllllly high pitch.  Simon stares blankly at him. Randy is covering up his face. The guy said Simon keeps it interesting... Umm its a no...

Another bad guy...

Coming up, looks like Kara vs. Simon.... aka WWIV... and someone who thinks she knows a lot about vocals and such but is going to suck (as far as I can tell...)

Don't forget about Fringe! Presented with limited commercial breaks! After Idol tonight!!

OOhhhh we see all the bickering between Simon and Kara. It looks like they are going to bring a lot of drama to the season...

Contestant 5.
Freak with the the papers about all the vocal stuff.... Doesnt know how to pronounce half of em. And says "A ca pella-ly" Oh this should be fun... Singing her original song Makes me Love. The song is terrible. She said her song came from the wrong rectum. Yikes! Paula leaves. Kara hugs her and tells her it's time to go. She said "I shouldn't have let Simon iraktatate me" Does she know any english?

Time for a Break again.

Contestant 6.
Annie Murdock... Plays instruments and such. Singing a Ronnie Rates song... idk...she decides on Summertime. Painful! Simon said "it was like she was drunk." Yeah.... four No's...

Contestant 7.
Adam Lambert... singing since he was ten, he watched the show for the past seven seasons. He thinks he's the next Idol. Singing Bohemian Rhapsody. By the looks of him, I think he could make it! Paula said he's a really good singer. Simon said he's theatrical. Randy said Yes. Simon said Yes. Kara said Yes as well as Paula said yes.

When we return, we see the love story that they had been advertising the entire show. By the way the past two episodes have gone, if they advertise this guy this much, he's gotta be going through to Hollywood.

Contestant 8.
At the moment, he plays music at night because he cares for his mother all day. She has a seizure disorder. He says his mom is the only woman in his life right now. She's so greatful that she raised him to be the way he is. He wants to buy her a house and make sure she's taken care of. He dedicates his audition to his mom. A very touching story. Simon says he has a great voice but has the personality of a ship singer. His voice is definitely different. Kara give him a Yes. as do the other 3 judges. He needs to work on his confidence a bit, but he could go far!

Tomorrow night is in Louville, KY. We also see a threat against Simon tomorrow! It's going to be a good one!

I'll also be blogging LIVE with the show again tomorrow.

Out.

How to Write a Letter to the President of the United States of America
20 January 09 07:58 AM | Zach | with no comments

I thought this eHow article fit today's Inauguration festivities.

Do you want to say something to the president? Do you want a letter back? Here are some guidelines for sending a courteous letter to the President of the United States of America.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer or typewriter
  • Paper and Envelope
  • Postage Stamps
Step 1
Organize your thoughts:

Take the time to jot down the general ideas that you want to convey in this letter. What is your subject? What are the facts? What is your opinion? Address only one topic in your letter. If you have additional topics, write an additional letter.
Step 2
Type your letter in the appropriate format:

Use the style of a business letter.
Include the date, your full name and mailing address.
The proper greeting is "Dear Mr. President".

Step 3
Continue your letter in a respectful tone. Use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. You want your message to be understood, and taken seriously. Never, ever threaten or harass in your letter. It is ok to express your opinion such as saying that you are upset or angry about a situation. It is NEVER acceptable to use threatening or harassing language. Do not use profanity.

Step 4
Proofreading:

Have someone else read over your letter before you send it. They can often see small mistakes that you have overlooked.

Step 5
Addressing and Mailing:

Use the correct address:

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Use your correct mailing address if you hope to get a response.

Use the appropriate postage:

Use a first class letter rate stamp. How embarassing would it be for your letter to arrive "postage due"?

Tips & Warnings

  • Be brief, concise, and courteous.
  • Check your grammar, spelling, and tone.
  • It is unlawful to threaten the President of the United States in any manner.
  • While you are entitled to your opinions, you are not entitled to be rude or threatening.

BREAKING NEWS: FDA: 'Postpone' eating foods containing peanut butter
18 January 09 07:39 PM | Zach | with no comments

It may not be news to you, but I've heard nothing about this!!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Federal health authorities told consumers on Saturday to avoid eating products that contain peanut butter until they can determine the scope of an outbreak of salmonella food poisoning that may have contributed to six deaths.

"We urge consumers to postpone eating any products that may contain peanut butter until additional information becomes available," Dr. Stephen Sundlof of the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety said in a teleconference with reporters.

As of now, there is no indication that "major national name brand jars of peanut butter sold in retail stores are linked" to bulk supplies of peanut butter and peanut paste recalled for fear of possible contamination, the FDA said in a follow-up statement.

The company at the center of the matter, Peanut Corporation of America, or PCA, said it had been informed by health authorities that some samples of its products had tested positive for a salmonella strain that may have originated in a Blakely, Georgia, peanut processing plant.

The peanut butter and peanut paste recalled by PCA was used by many other manufacturers to make such products as cakes, crackers, candies, cookies and ice cream, the FDA said.

"In terms of food products which contain peanut butter, but have not yet been recalled, we urge consumers to postpone eating these products until information becomes available about whether that product may be affected," an e-mailed statement said. "We have been advised by manufacturers that product specific information may be available within the next few days."

The FDA is asking companies to check the records of their supply chain and determine if their ingredients came from PCA, and if so, to take "appropriate precautionary measures."

As of Friday night, 474 people had been reported infected by a salmonella outbreak linked to peanut butter by public health authorities in 43 of the 50 U.S. states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

Twenty-three percent of the known cases had resulted in hospitalizations and the infections may have contributed to six deaths, said Dr. Robert Tauxe, deputy director of the Centers' division of Foodborne, Bacterial and Mycotic Diseases.

The very young, elderly and immuno-compromised were the most severely affected, he said in the teleconference. The reported illnesses began in September and 21 cases were reported on Friday.

The recalled peanut butter was sold in containers ranging in size from 5 pounds (2.3 kg) to 1,700 pounds (771 kg) and the peanut paste was sold in sizes ranging from 35-pound (16-kg) containers to tanker containers. None of the peanut butter or peanut paste being recalled so far is sold through retail stores, PCA said.

Kellogg Co said late on Friday it was recalling certain products that "have the potential to be contaminated," including some Austin and Keebler branded peanut butter snacks and some Famous Amos and Keebler Soft Batch cookies.
