Ok, I know, you’ve been missing your Created to Move blog reposts. So here is about a two week montage of his posts. Fun Post Friday....Make mine an extra medium please! It use to be that size mattered. Growing up we had three sizes…small, medium, large. Back in the day large meant something. You never ordered a large coke, large shake, or large pizza unless you had three friends (or were supporting a small guerilla force) to share it with. Today everything is about choice. We have more options, more decisions, more avenues than ever to explore so much so that we often become paralyzed, afraid to choose, afraid to make the wrong choice. All things that were once seen as universal and unchanging are being re-written, re-created without much concern, fanfare, or hoopla. The three categories of size have been reshaped into a myriad of sizes. What once was small is now, petite, extra small, or short, along with small. You have large, economy and extra large. Starbuck’s has added to the confusion...
26.2 miles is the official length of the Marathon. The race is grueling, demanding that the participant be mentally and physically prepared, demanding a strain upon the will, a going beyound the mind's ability to comprehend what is and is not possible. We are conditioned to think that 1 mile is a long way, a tough run, a great workout. For many 1 mile is forever long. For some 1 block is a stumbling block. Try running 26.2 miles a day, for 50 days straight, no breaks , each day in one of the 50 states. That is exactly what Dean Karnazes is planning to attempt beginning on September 17th. I ran my first, and currently only, Marathon back in 1998. My wife, a friend, and I trained for 18 weeks. We followed the plan line by line, we ran long runs on the weekend, we ate powerbars, and packets of Gu by the fistfulls. We dranks gallons of water, powerade, and gatorade all in preparation of one race on one day that lay before us. I started out fresh, feeling good. The weeks of training were well...
I remember one time when me and my buddy were issued a challenge. You see, there were these two rich brothers who would place a wager on just about anything at anytime. They had the money and to them everything was a game. At the time it was illegal to bring Coors across the state line. The wager? Deliver a truck load of beer across the Mississippi in a specified amount of time without getting caught. Now we had a long way to go and a short time to get there so I deciced to buy a trans-am. My buddy would drive the truck while I ran decoy. Oh wait...that is a movie I once saw. This week has been hectic so the writting has been light. Here is what you can expect from Created to Move next week. Monday: Top 10 Motivational Movies of All Time Wednesday: World Wide Web Wednesday....50 Marathons in 50 Days Across 50 States Friday: Fun Post Friday......TBD Have a great weekend!
Note from Zach: ack !!! I am bad at remembering to post... using the moment to catch you up on your BJ posts... No exercise, no crazy diets, this weekend you too can lose 50-300lbs with little or no effort. Throw away your television (wieght loss depends on model/make of your televison). Did you know an average person will have watched 7-10 years worth of television by age 70? Since this is the average time that means there are some of you who will well exceed the 10 year mark. 7-10 years is a long time. What could you do if you devoted 7-10 years of your life to something other than television? You could get a Ph.D. Become an expert at the guitar Learn a new language Read War and Peace Knit a Ferrari ( Link ). Become a professional wrestler Herd cats You will never hear of someone lying on their deathbed asking for more television, "If only I could have one more day..just one more hour of Three's Company. Is that so hard to ask? That Jack Tripper is a hoot!" No, usually people ask for...
Why isn't weight loss easier? You would think that if we could place a man on the moon, invent velcro, oxyclean, and tang then we would certanily have discovered a pill or a shot one could take to lose weight. Surely by now a society as highly advanced and as inteleculaty gifted as ours would have developed a more effective means of weight loss? Yet year after year we are bombarded by the savy marketeers with revolutionary products like Tae Bo, the Grapefruit diet, and 3 day long Tony Little informercials screaming at us from across the room. Sit back, grap the Krispy Kreme, and relax because science could be closer than you think. I won't bore you with the details but you can read it for yourself here http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/healthnews.php?newsid=48477 What do you think? Would you take a shot if you knew that it would help you lose weight? Does this type of science fall into the realm of performance enchancing drugs? Would you support an athelete who took the vaccine and then...
To be “da man you gots to beat da man.” Gyms are nothing more than four walls pumped full of testosterone filled with guys yelling, screaming, and sweating, lots of sweat, buckets of sweat. The walls are covered floor to ceiling with mirrors, constructed from space age technology that amplifies sound 1000 times making even a gnat sneeze sound like a cannon exploding thus allowing everyone in the gym to hear what a weenie boy you are as you strain to push out the last rep. People of all walks of life join gyms. I have found that it is easier to stay motivated when working out with a friend. Keep the following in mind when working out together. Proper gym etiquette requires that whenever you workout with a friend you have to “motivate” that person through fear, intimidation, and humiliation. This usually consists of screaming things like, “great job bro!” “don’t quit on me now Sally!” “one more…just one more!” “you have got to be joking?!” You job is to make sure your partner is truly working...

Are you looking for the next great diet, next big exercise craze to hit the market? Are you looking for that one magic bullet that will help you shed pounds, get you ripped abs, and help you land your dream job? Have you given water a chance? That's right water. I'm not talking about Taebo, or Atkins or pilates. You won't find a 45 day infomercial on what I'm preaching here because unlike many get skinny quick programs this change is simple, easy, and costs only pennies a day. I'm preaching 1 part hydrogen and 2 parts oxygen....you got it water. Now water may not help you land your dream job but it can perform micro-miracles in your day to day life. Here are some quick facts about water and the human body (as found on about.com): Nearly 60% of your body weight is water. About 75% of your muscles are made of water. Our bodies receive water three ways: from food, from drinking and from metabolism. The old "8 glasses a day" is a fine standard... depending on what size glass you use! We need...
I am the king of condiments. If saucy were a town I would be the mayor. I am a self proclaimed lover of all things high in high-fructose corn syrup. Ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce, soy sauce, honey mustard, and almost every dressing know to the free world reside in my fridge. There are not too many things that could not be made better with a little sauce. What could possibly be missing you ask? Well....food for one thing. I have spend my entire life searching the world over for the best condiments money can by only to find my quest was in vain for now I have no chicken, no salad, no stir fry, no steak, no hamburger, no even a french fry to shower. Someonne once said variety is the sauce of life and I live by that motto. But all seriousness aside, I must admit that I do not partake so much in the mayonaise....just one of those freak things that never took hold. Sort of like my disike of Kim Jong Ill and dog meat. Maybe it is the consistency or maybe it is the color, or maybe it is the fact...
Courtesy of BJ not BK on a previous blog called Created to Move. Wouldn’t it be great if you had your own trainer or coach? I know some of you have often thought, “If only I had some direction,” or “If only there was a way to easily track my progress, or my exercises, or even my calorie intake!” Fear not for help is on the way. Several years ago I became very serious about “getting back into shape.” My doctor informed me that exercise alone would not do it and that to really see results I had to incorporate a sound approach to my calorie intake as well. My first thought was one of dread. I did not want to carry a notebook with me day and night and I definitely did not want to spend my evenings looking up and calculating calories. So I did what anyone with a high-speed connection might do…I went online to research what was available. What did I find? Glad you asked! The Vivonic Fitness Planner Software. This was just what I was looking for. Now I am not saying that this is the best program...
Courtesy of BJ not BK from a previous blog called Created to Move. A couple of weeks ago we looked at Assessing your past and present before beginning a new workout program. By now, if you have been playing along at home, you should have a thorough assessment of where you have been and where you are at presently in terms of your physical condition. Now comes the fun part, time to create your new goals. What are you aiming for? What do you hope to accomplish? Studies have shown that thos who are the most successful often set goals for themselves. It is important when setting goals to use the S.M.A.R.T. method. S pecific – be specific with your fitness goals. While wanting to “look better” might be something you want to accomplish, make your goal specific such as “lose 10 lbs in two months. M easurable – You won’t know when you have reached your goal unless you can measure it. Losing a certain amount of weight, running a distance, lifting x amount of weight are all measurable. A ttainable...
Post courtesy of BJ not BK in a previous blog called Created to Move. Ok, so you probably fall into one of three camps when it comes to the Tour de France. 1. I am a fan of the Tour de France. I follow it daily or every other day. I am interested in the results and I understand some of the scoring and strategy related to the event. 2. I have no interest in watching grown men pedaling their bikes across a continent. 3. Tour de what? If you fall into either category 2 or 3 then this is not the post for you However, if you are a fan of the tour, ride a bike on a regular basis, or have wondered if those guys in the funny shorts really are athletes then read on. Lance Armstrong's former coach, Chris Carmichael has put together 7 workouts that mimic critical stages of this year's tour. Here is how it works. Chris Carmichael along with Bob Roll have recorded an audio workout that directs you through the stage you are mimicking. You visit the CTS website and create an account with username and...

Post coutresy of BJ not BK in a previous blog called Created to Move. Part 2, Assessing your present- Daily calorie intake and Body statistics Ok, so when are we getting to the fun stuff? Running, biking, playing, the whole mind body soul articles and the nutrition articles and the tech toys? Soon, very soon but before we get there we have to establish a good foundation. On Friday we looked at the import of a self assessment and over the weekend you were to look at your past. This morning our focus will be on the present. Where are you today? What is your level of fitness? Where are you at regarding your eating habits? How many calories do you take in on an average day? Let’s begin with a food journal. The rule here is to keep this as simple as possible. For this exercise you will need a notepad and a pen. For one week you are to record everything you eat. You are not making any changes to your diet at this point. Go about your regular day eating as you normally would. The goal here is...
