Both Paul and Moses wrote to the People or Assembly or Ekklesia of God.

2.) However, Paul wrote to those under the New Covenant while Moses wrote to those under the Old Covenant.

In light of these two (distinct) points, I believe we can then start thinking more clearly on Deut 13 and this Christian legislator. If we acknowlegde that Moses wrote to the covenant people of God, we understand he was not writing to the Egyptians, Canaanites, or non-covenant individuals. That is why, as I have mentioned many times before, Daniel did not legislate to the Babylonians and Persians from the Covenant given by Moses. No doubt he borrowed and often modeled from the civil aspects of this covenant. Yet he understood Deut 13 and the like were for the Covenant People of God, not for those outside the Covenant.

We need not confuse the two distinct points I made. For now, let us ignore the second (and somewhat challenging point). Christian legislators in a secular government, at best, borrow from the Mosaic Covenant; they do not (and should not in my opinion) duplicate the Covenant. Now a pastor and elders are different. They lead the Covenant (be it New) People of God.

A flat head screwdriver can turn a Philips head screw, yet with frustration and inefficiency. We must keep that in mind in trying to transfer the Old Covenant regulations to nations of noncovenant members.

The verse you quote is directed at the church, yes? Or do you say it is also directed at the civil government? Help me understand how you put this all together. How would you advise a Christian legislator to make law? Do you believe it is acceptable for Christian's to be legislator's in the civil government?-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Joe, thanks for thinking of me. My suggestion was genuine, because I know you think you have a Scriptural reason for your understanding of Deuteronomy 13......I hope you guys have been filled with His peace and Presence, rejoicing in His great love toward us. It's good to have a quick minute to say hi.

"For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges (or will judge) those outside. 'Purge the evil person from among you.'" (Paul, quoting Deut 13 in 1 Corinthians 5)

So here is a difficult question, how many combinations of H2O can be found in nature? For the real brave, what are the natural abundances of these molecules?

It's not important in logic problems (ducks don't bark). The first statement says that water is H2O. Therefore, as far as I can tell, the second statement isn't necessary.
