Yep, as reported first by Fox Sports, Brett Favre has been traded to the New York Jets. As a Bears fan, can I ask just one thing? Can we get on with our lives now, people? I mean, seriously folks, he retired this spring; a grand total of about a hundred people have shown up to chant "Bring Back Brett" since he decided to unretire; it's time to move along, nothing to see here. As announced in the Packers' Press release: "Brett has had a long and storied career in Green Bay, and the Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for everything he accomplished. It is with some sadness that we make this announcement, but also with the desire for certainty that will allow us to move the team and organization forward in the most positive way possible." Yes, even the Packers are glad tis is over. They moved on with their lives when he retired, and they just weren't ready for him to jump back into things. Good for them.

Since no one correctly predicted the winner of the Super Bowl, how about another contest then? This one was proposed by lilaislin: # aislin123 said on February 4, 2008 05:08 PM: "Well, can we get someone to write on some cheers to the Giants? I got one ... (to the tune of We're Brothers Forever) LOL Giants 'til the end of time Win or lose, I'll always be your fan The cheating Patriots will reign no more ... I love you, Eli :) Anyone who can post the best Giants cheer wins, Scoutmom will be the judge." I think that's a pretty good idea, so I'll tell you what - I will accept cheers, songs or even haiku. The person who comes up with the best one wins the prize. So, get your pom-pons out, rev up your "Rah! Rah!"s and away we go....

Since I don't want to break any rules, and since I don't have permission to call this a "Super Bowl Contest" from the NFL, I will have to refer to it this as the "Scoutmom's Sports From The Other Side Who Will Win The NFL Championship Game" Contest. That's right! You have a chance to win a personalized mousepad (brought to you courtesy of aislin123!) How do you play? Well, I'm glad you asked, (wouldn't want to be rude and just TELL you if ya didn't want to know!) All you have to do is guess the winner and the score of the Super...um...you know, the big football game on Sunday, February 3rd. Just send me an email -- with your predictions in the subject -- no later than 12:00 NOON on Feb. 3rd. If more than one person submits the same winners/score, the earliest electronic postmark will determine the winner. In the meantime, why not share what you plan to do the day of the big game! Good luck, and good guessing!

It has gotten this bad. Today's playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks is being touted as "The Battle With Seattle". Puh-lease, give me a break! It's a playoff game, sure, but sheesh! Can the Patriots remain unbeaten? Can Tony Romo get his mind of Jessica and back in the game? Can the Colts...oh, never mind! Of the thousands of words being churned out by sports writers everywhere, how many are actually being read? All the fans really care about is their team. The clichés, the clever little titles, the witty repartee - totally extraneous at this point. There is nothing new to be learned that we don't already know. Heck, we even have the answer to "will Brett Favre return next year?" Want another example? How about this from ESPN.com: "In the art of deception, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are true geniuses. Expect their magical ways to continue in this weekend's playoff games." Or SI.com: "Romo's romance...

Favre vs. Testaverde - Old and Olderer!

Green Bay Packers vs. Carolina Panthers: This senior moment is brought to you by Flexall Ultra Plus Rub for Joint Pain - or it should be, anyway!. I couldn't pass on the opportunity to join in the good natured ribbing of Brett Favre and Vinny Testaverde - the oldest quarterback pair in the NFL who will face off on Sunday at Lambeau Field - with a combined age of 82 years, 44 days. Favre, 38 is expected to start opposite Testaverde, who turned 44 on Tuesday. And ever since it has been announced, the jokes have been rolling faster than a walker headed downhill. "Whatever the jokes are, they're good, is the way I look at it," Brett Favre said. "Because we're still playing. And that says a lot." So, just what is being said about the AARP Bowl? How about they're serving prune juice instead of Gatorade; the team dinner will be held at 3 p.m., bingo to follow; it'll be "Cocoon" in cleats. Yep, all that and more. When asked why he though Testaverde...

First you have to wade through the "bad" and the "ugly", but hang with it. The good at the end makes it all worthwhile. 1. Michael Vick is an idiot. 2. Barry Bonds steroid use (oh, sorry, "alleged" steroid use) has turned him into the "Biggest Loser". 3. The New York Mets are pulling a '69 Cubs. Go Phillies! 4. Somebody has finally knocked some sense into Lovie Smith. (However Rex STILL doesn't get it.) 5. Did I already say "Michael Vick is an idiot? Well he's twice the idiot now with the whole marijuana thing. 6. It is not possible for there to be a worse division than the NL Central - the first place team loses and still has their magic number drop (Go Cubs) and the second place team loses, then claims "We're in a situation where we no longer control our own destiny." Huh? 7. Major League umpire Mike Winters is a total putz! 8. Milton Bradley (the player, not the board game manufacturer) has learned an important lesson...
Are You Ready For Some Football...Drama?

I used to think that the most drama occurred around NASCAR, as evidenced by the ongong "As The Engine Revs", but right now, NASCAR has nothing on the NFL. Take a look at these stories, and let me know if I've missed something: Tank Johnson a Dallas Cowboy? On Monday, former Chicago Bear Tank Johnson (he of the dubious night club shooting/illegal weapons fame) said that once his eight-game NFL suspension is up, he expects to play for the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys brought him to Dallas and have him staying in the hotel players use before home games. I'm here to work some things out. I'm looking here for a fresh start," Johnson said. Geez, guys, good luck with that! Last time you picked up one of our rejects it was Allonso Spellman! Hope this one works out better for you! They haven't officially signed him yet. Any team could sign him during the suspension, but he can't work out or have contact with a team until it is over. Of course, it seems as if the...

Appleton, WI - Green Bay Packers Nick Barnett was arrested for misdemeanor battery last Sunday after allegedly shoving a woman at a downtown nightclub. In his defense, the co-owner of the bar said the woman threw a drink in his face before he shoved her...er...allegedly. Barnett has been a regular at the bar for months, and was there with about six other Packers players, some with their wives. Gilbert, AZ - Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tank Johnson (yeah, the guns in the house/friend shot in the bar guy) was pulled over for speeding Friday. He was also cited for "being impaired to the slightest degree" and had blood drawn to determine if he was drunk. He is already suspended for the first eight games of the season for violating probation on a gun violation. Las Vegas, NV - Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has posted bail and returned home to Nashville, after surrendering to face charges that he threatened to kill employees at the Minxx club and that...
