It's Official - Brett Favre Headed to the Big Apple
07 August 08 05:55 AM | scoutmom | 2 comment(s)
Yep, as reported first by Fox Sports, Brett Favre has been traded to the New York Jets. As a Bears fan, can I ask just one thing? Can we get on with our lives now, people? I mean, seriously folks, he retired this spring; a grand total of about a hundred people have shown up to chant "Bring Back Brett" since he decided to unretire; it's time to move along, nothing to see here. As announced in the Packers' Press release: "Brett has had a long and storied career in Green Bay, and the Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for everything he accomplished. It is with some sadness that we make this announcement, but also with the desire for certainty that will allow us to move the team and organization forward in the most positive way possible." Yes, even the Packers are glad tis is over. They moved on with their lives when he retired, and they just weren't ready for him to jump back into things. Good for them.

Favre Wants to "Unretire"...

...again. Who didn't see this one coming? This is a guy who just doesn't know how to give it a rest. But this time, instead of welcoming him back with open arms, the Green Bay Packers response has been to ignore, and then politely decline, Favre's pleas...and phone calls...and text messages. Yep, they have let him know they have made their decision to move forward, and that they will not jump when he calls any longer. Move along, nothing to see here folks. EXCEPT... Except that now there is the possibility they may say "okay", reactivate him and then trade his sorry old butt to another team. Wait, did you just say Brett Favre might be available? I mean, so what if he retires again in another year. So what if he's old. I mean, he's Brett Favre. How do you think you'd look in blue and orange, Brett? And why not? I mean, McMahon went to Green Bay after he left the Bears, turnabout is fair play. Besides, anything has to be better than having Rex Grossman,...

2008 NFL Draft Day - 1st Round Schedule
15 April 08 02:04 PM | scoutmom | 1 comment(s)
The first round in the 2008 NFL Draft is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM Eastern on Saturday, April 26. Although New England lost the 31 st pick overall in the first round as a penalty for the Patriot-gate incident, they traded up and are picking 7 th overall. Hmmm, doesn't seem like much of a punishment now, does it? Will you be watching? Got a favorite player you're hoping to see picked? Does your team really have a need for a particular position? Mine does, but there is no hope. I mean you'd think as a Bears fan I would be glad we are no longer facing Brett Favre. Hah! Lot of good that does, look who we'll still have quarterbacking this year! Doomed....we're doomed, I tell you! 2008 NFL Draft Order Pick Team Record Strength Of Schedule 1. Miami 1-15 .539 2. St. Louis 3-13 .512 3. Atlanta 4-12 .516 4. Oakland 4-12 .516 5. Kansas City 4-12 .516 6. N.Y. Jets 4-12 .523 7. New England (from S.F.) 16-0 .500 8. Baltimore 5-11 .516 9. Cincinnati 7-9 .461 10. New Orleans 7...

It's Official - Brett Favre is Retiring

STATEMENT FROM PACKERS GENERAL MANAGER TED THOMPSON: Brett Favre has informed us of his intention to retire from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL. He has had one of the greatest careers in the history of the National Football League, and he is able to walk away from the game on his own terms - not many players are able to do that. The Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude. He has given Packers fans 16 years of wonderful memories, a Super Bowl championship among them, that will live on forever. Brett's many accomplishments on the field are legendary. He leaves the game holding virtually every career passing record, plus his consecutive starts streak, which may never be duplicated. The uniqueness of Brett Favre - his personality, charisma and love of the game - undoubtedly will leave him as one of the enduring figures in NFL history. This is from me: Although I am a lifelong Bears fan, even I will admit Brett Favre has had an incredible career. Still doesn't help the Bears...

Brett Favre Set to Retire
04 March 08 09:35 AM | scoutmom | 1 comment(s)
Although no official announcement has been made, Fox Sports and ESPN.com are reporting that Brett Favre is retiring. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that according to Favre's agent, Buss Cook, Favre informed Packers coach Mike McCarthy of his decision Monday night. Favre, who came to the Packers 17 years ago in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons, holds nearly every record there is for a quarterback. His stats show an impressive 5,377 career completions in 8,758 attempts for 61,655 yards, 442 touchdowns and 288 interceptions. He broke Dan Marino's touchdown record this past season. Favre was voted in to nine Pro Bowls and led the team to two Super Bowl appearances. As of Tuesday morning, Cook stated that there were no plans for Favre to hold a press conference. The official website of Brett Favre does not yet have confirmation, but is reporting on the story. http://www.officialbrettfavre.com/news/story_01330467aab8/ Image courtesy of Washington Post

Second Chance Contest
05 February 08 07:28 AM | scoutmom | 2 comment(s)
Since no one correctly predicted the winner of the Super Bowl, how about another contest then? This one was proposed by lilaislin: # aislin123 said on February 4, 2008 05:08 PM: "Well, can we get someone to write on some cheers to the Giants? I got one ... (to the tune of We're Brothers Forever) LOL Giants 'til the end of time Win or lose, I'll always be your fan The cheating Patriots will reign no more ... I love you, Eli :) Anyone who can post the best Giants cheer wins, Scoutmom will be the judge." I think that's a pretty good idea, so I'll tell you what - I will accept cheers, songs or even haiku. The person who comes up with the best one wins the prize. So, get your pom-pons out, rev up your "Rah! Rah!"s and away we go....

Super Bowl...errr...NFL Championship Game Contest

Since I don't want to break any rules, and since I don't have permission to call this a "Super Bowl Contest" from the NFL, I will have to refer to it this as the "Scoutmom's Sports From The Other Side Who Will Win The NFL Championship Game" Contest. That's right! You have a chance to win a personalized mousepad (brought to you courtesy of aislin123!) How do you play? Well, I'm glad you asked, (wouldn't want to be rude and just TELL you if ya didn't want to know!) All you have to do is guess the winner and the score of the Super...um...you know, the big football game on Sunday, February 3rd. Just send me an email -- with your predictions in the subject -- no later than 12:00 NOON on Feb. 3rd. If more than one person submits the same winners/score, the earliest electronic postmark will determine the winner. In the meantime, why not share what you plan to do the day of the big game! Good luck, and good guessing!

Hyperbole Rules in NFL Playoffs
12 January 08 12:42 PM | scoutmom | 3 comment(s)
It has gotten this bad. Today's playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks is being touted as "The Battle With Seattle". Puh-lease, give me a break! It's a playoff game, sure, but sheesh! Can the Patriots remain unbeaten? Can Tony Romo get his mind of Jessica and back in the game? Can the Colts...oh, never mind! Of the thousands of words being churned out by sports writers everywhere, how many are actually being read? All the fans really care about is their team. The clichés, the clever little titles, the witty repartee - totally extraneous at this point. There is nothing new to be learned that we don't already know. Heck, we even have the answer to "will Brett Favre return next year?" Want another example? How about this from ESPN.com: "In the art of deception, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are true geniuses. Expect their magical ways to continue in this weekend's playoff games." Or SI.com: "Romo's romance...

Favre vs. Testaverde - Old and Olderer!
16 November 07 08:27 PM | scoutmom | with no comments
Green Bay Packers vs. Carolina Panthers: This senior moment is brought to you by Flexall Ultra Plus Rub for Joint Pain - or it should be, anyway!. I couldn't pass on the opportunity to join in the good natured ribbing of Brett Favre and Vinny Testaverde - the oldest quarterback pair in the NFL who will face off on Sunday at Lambeau Field - with a combined age of 82 years, 44 days. Favre, 38 is expected to start opposite Testaverde, who turned 44 on Tuesday. And ever since it has been announced, the jokes have been rolling faster than a walker headed downhill. "Whatever the jokes are, they're good, is the way I look at it," Brett Favre said. "Because we're still playing. And that says a lot." So, just what is being said about the AARP Bowl? How about they're serving prune juice instead of Gatorade; the team dinner will be held at 3 p.m., bingo to follow; it'll be "Cocoon" in cleats. Yep, all that and more. When asked why he though Testaverde...
