This recipe is for adults only! It is the real deal and will not only chase the chill away, you're liable to forget all about Old Man Winter. Early American Eggnog Ingredients : 2 cups brandy 1 cup dark Jamaica rum 1 cup rye whiskey 1/2 cup sherry 8 eggs, separated 1/2 cup sugar 1 quart whole milk 1 quart heavy cream Nutmeg for sprinkling Cinnamon sticks for garnish Method : In a large container, combine liquors. In a large bowl, whisk yolks until thick and pale. Gradually add sugar and continue whisking. Slowly add milk and cream and continue whisking. Slowly add liquor and continue whisking. (For a thicker eggnog, reserve half the cream, whip it stiff and fold in gently.) Beat egg whites until they are stiff but not dry. Gently fold in beaten egg whites. Chill thoroughly and serve chilled. Best made a day or more ahead so the flavors can mellow. Top with a sprinkle of nutmeg. Garnish with cinnamon stick if desired.
