Thanks

I have recently graduated in accounting and moved to Toronto to pursue my CA deg. In order to register as a CA student, I needed to secure employment in a CA firm. I have desperately applied, without success, to CA firms all of last year. The only response I have been getting from these firms is that they are not hiring. I had no idea that they were even laying off hundreds and did not need me, the new comer. I was still stuck on the news of 2006 that these firms were in short supply of CA s and CA students. This whole employment process is so frustrating! Would you have any advice for someone trying to get into the field?

Update to my above post - looks like D&T is catching up to the rest of the Big 4 - www.retheauditors.com/.../newsflash-theyve-all-been-laying-off.html

Francine references this article:

dealbreaker.com/.../layoffs_watch_08_accountants_a.php

Not much in the way of details though, so I'm assuming this is a notch above 'rumour' level. A notch above, since there's nothing particularly outrageous about it, other than the fact they're hitting juniors (1st/2nd year hires). Ouch.

What is causing all these lay offs?
