Flowers and Bones by fleur_de_lis

I was recently in Santa Fe, one of the most beautiful cities in the United States. The culture and history of this southwestern town is amazing. So, too, is one of their most famous women artists --Georgia O'Keeffe. While I was there, I visited the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and was once more carried away by the beauty of the art experience. Truly, if you have never been to an art museum to view fabulous paintings you are missing out! Pictures in books, copies, and what I put in my blogs just don't cut it! To start, here is an example that may make you say "Oh yeah, I've seen her work before!" Oriental Poppies Georgia lived a long and productive life, much of it in her beloved New Mexico. She is one of the few women artists of her time who was able to make an impact on the art world. In the 1920's she gave us her interpretation of the power and emotion of natural objects by painting large canvases sometimes containing only one or two huge flowers. The lushness...

The Smell of the Snow by fleur_de_lis

I lost my brother last week. Until the very end, he cherished each moment he had. He loved his wife, he was dedicated to his work at their foundation and sanctuary for rescued dogs, he was cherished by his friends and family. In my very last conversation with him, he talked about his secluded life high atop a mesa south of Santa Fe. The peace he felt, the brilliance of the moon shining in the windows, the smell of the snow. Oh, my brother, we miss you so...you truly lived a life that made a difference.
