Saw this article today floating around and thought I would share it with you, my friendly, faithful, and good looking readers.

Are labels useful?  Do they help?

Was this manifesto necessary?

Words are just words.  Live what you believe or get out of the way.

In this case, I agree with Fluffy. I don't see anything but a bunch of words. However, I don't think every creed or statement of faith is just babble. But this time, what's the point?

I didn't read it all word for word, but it appears that it is primarily aimed at the media who like to label and classify evangelicals, the religious right, etc.  They do need to understand that we are defined not by our politics as much as by our faith.  I noted that the statement insists that we do not prefer to lead with the label evangelical, but simply Christians or followers of Christ in the historical, orthodox meaning of those terms.  For these reasons, there does seem to be a justification for a manifesto that makes it clear that we are not to be pigeon-holed, or placed in a stereotypical box, but are to be understood as those who believe the Bible and are devoted to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  I have no problem with such a statement . . .

Having also scanned it as :o)} did I agree that defining oneself rather than being defined is (perhaps regretfully) necessary.  Joe and Fluffy also have a point as well.  The point both ways is to both state and live truth.  If we only live it few will understand  and differentiate truth from error. If we state it and not live it we'll be altogether ignored.
