My days are usually routine and ho-hum. But then you have days like today when everything is going great. There are no major problems, and nothing particularly exciting happening. And then, wham-bam! This happens...
I was loading up the kids in the SUV after a short little play date. L was climbing into her carseat, so I thought. I went around to position S's car seat carrier into its base. I yanked open his door and out fell L -- she went splat! right onto the asphalt. Of course she cried like crazy. I picked her up and brushed her off. She received a pretty nasty scrape on her elbow. This scrape turned out to ruin our entire day. By the time we got home, she was worked up into a major tizzy. Tears streaming and then choking and gagging. Her body shook all over from head to toe. This was serious. Of course, I could see that the scrape was a mere scrape with minimal blood. I guess to her it was a major wound.
I doctored her wound with Neosporin and Strawberry Shortcake Band-Aids. This should've made everything better. But L complained that the "ban-bans" were hurting her. So after a couple of hours of talking her into keeping the Band-Aids in place as to not trail blood all over her clothes and our furniture, I had to peel off each Band-Aid. This caused yet another meltdown. This one, thank goodness, lasted only a few minutes.
For the remainder of the day L reminded me not to touch her boo-boo. When Daddy got home she replayed the story and reminded him not to touch the boo-boo. She held her little arm out to her side all afternoon and evening.
My sweet hubby, the "fixer", said if he would've known how bad her boo-boo had been, he would've instructed me to immediately trade our SUV for a brand new Mercedes-Benz. Surely such an incident wouldn't have happened if we would've been in a Mercedes! Only the best for his family! (You gotta love living with a man with such humorous sarcasm).
L took her bath this evening without complaints. Usually when there are boo-boos involved, bath time is horrible. But she did fine and went to bed happy. Let's hope for a less traumatic (and less dramatic) day tomorrow. Uhhh, never mind. S has his 4-month immunizations tomorrow. The drama never ends.
*Periodically, I like to write posts about our routine days at home. This is my way of journaling. One day I hope to look back at my posts and enjoy reading about our adventures.
