The True Rock: Hear His Words (Part 2 of 3)
In Luke 6:46-49 Jesus says:
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Hear His Words...
Jesus is the author of all the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, and every Word is His Word. We must hear all of His Words in His Word. We are not free to do the buffet-style hearing of God's Word. In Matthew 5:17-20, Jesus tells us during the Sermon on the Mount, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." In order to hear Jesus' Words, we must hear all of the exhaustive details of all of the Bible, including the Older Testament. According to these words of Jesus in Matthew 5, we see the abiding validity of the exhaustive details of all of God's Word.
