It has been a while since Tofurky Day

It has been a while since this blog had a new post. So long, in fact, that there were some cobwebs that I needed to clear before I entered. I had a few items of discussion that I wanted to bring up to those of you who steeplers out there.

1. Congrats to gdesignr. He won 3rd place on the jeep compass advertisement he designed.

Hi All,
Just wanted to post to let you know about the Jeep commercial contest...  I won 3rd Place!  That's an Apple iPod!
http://www.freeyourthoughts.com

I really appreciate all of the unexpected promotion, and the votes from everyone here...  not as many as I needed to bring home the Jeep, but enough to keep me out of 4th place(by 10 votes!)

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays, and I look forward to the return of Gold Rush in Feb.

-Michael

Thank you everyone who voted for Michael!!

2. Also congrats goes to ctaudigrl who is the latest Steep to win a gold coin. Anyone have a running total?

3. For those of you who are bored without Gold Rush, there is a blog created to give you things to do which can be found here. I just finished the Ultimate Riddle which was hard. I am also working on Biz Fantast, which you can read more about in the forums.

4. I was wondering what everyone has been doing now that Gold Rush 1 is over and we are waiting for Gold Rush 2.

Finally, Here is a link to my blog as well as all the other SteepleMedia blogs.

I spent a good deal of time on GR1 to no avail, should have joined Steeple sooner. I have toyed with some of the riddle sites that have been posted, but have not made it very far. Is there some internet sites that I need to be aware of that would help? I feel I need someone to take me under their wing! Peep! Peep! I really enjoy all the blogs and try to read them every day.

I had been wondering how you had done in the Jeep competition. Sorry you didn't get the Jeep, but congrats on the Ipod! Please post if you are in any other competitions.

Happy Holidays to all,

Question: Did anyone get a Gold Rush t-shirt? I'm just wondering if they actually sent them out.

It's strange how sometimes the Gold Rush contest seems really responsive, and other times you wonder if anyone is there...   I'm really surprised that they haven't updated the Hall of Fame with the gold coin winnners and the top 100 for the last 2 rounds.  You would think that would be easy, and we like our little bit of web fame. I guess they are all busy working hard to get Gold Rush 2 ready for next month (any idea if that is still going to happen?), but you'd think they'd take a few minutes to keep their players happy.  I imagine it will be a horrible job to mail 5000 tshirts, but just hire some temps and get it done already.  Also they were really really slow notifying the gold coin winners, when the rules stated it would be done the night of the final puzzles for each round, it seems like it was often months later.  I've also seen complaints about the instant win spin the wheel prizes not being sent out.

I know that these contests are mostly about marketing, and appealing to the clients that are paying the money, but it's frustrating when they forget about the players...  The Jeep contests is similar... I've seen on their site that I won third place, but I didn't get a call or even an email to say I won, and I have no idea if or when they are going to mail the ipod.  Volvo on the other hand seemed to really do a good job with how they treated their players.  Dominos also seems really responsive so far with their new contest.  Gold Rush has sometimes been great, like with the live contests, and with actually giving away tshirts when we suggested it, and sometimes they've been poor.  It seems strange to me when companies will spend tons of money making websites and advertising contests, but then fall flat when it comes to giving out the rewards.  I guess you can't complain too much when you are getting something for free, but they could easily have a very loyal customer if they gave out the prize quickly with a brief bit of fanfare rather than making people wait and wonder and get annoyed.
