Gold Rush Update

It has been a while since I made my last post but since there are only 13 days left until the kickoff of Gold Rush from AOL and CBS, I thought I would update everyone with some pertinent information.
Gold Rush will last a total of 49 days and will end on November 1st. Unfortunately, the contest is only open to US Residents, but from past experience, I know there will be quite a few people outside of the US contributing and helping solve the riddles. If you're lucky maybe you could even convince a winner to send you a few ounces of gold, or possibly a
NBC Treasure Hunters cryptex
(now those things are cool).
What we have heard from AOL and which was confirmed in
this article
is that,
the answers will be conspicuously placed within select CBS shows, on AOL.com and in consumer magazines.
And as to why I believe it is a good idea to join up with other people on a team to solve the answers, you may reference this quote which explains how the winners will be selected.
After each round of questions, the first three players to answer all questions correctly will then travel to a special location to compete for $100,000 in gold.
In my last post, I discussed AOL digging up real gold owed to them by a king spammer. I thought maybe they were running a little short on Gold and needed to find some extra loot. But after reading
this article
, which confirms that AOL now has over $20 million in sponsorships for Gold Rush, I don't think they are going to have much of a problem paying out the $2 million.
This is shaping up very nicely for AOL and for all of us. Hopefully if this is successful, we will have more opportunities to play in the future. If you anxious to get started and need something to keep you busy you could submit the solutions for the
ThanksUSA treasure hunt
or give a few of
orbitz super cool flash games
a try (Baseball is my personal favorite).
Cheers!

AOL - Gold Diggers

AOL must have realized that it was a few gold bars short for their upcoming Gold Rush challenge, so they decided to go on a treasure hunt.
This article
which was tipped to me by
Krupo
several days ago discusses AOL persuit of money owed to them by a former King of Spam.
I find it absolutely amazing just how much money spammers were making in the tech boom. The article says David Hawkes was raking in close to $600,000 a month to spam email accounts. That's a chunk of change for sending out a few emails, 90 percent of which were probably never read. Good Luck AOL!

AOL's Gold Rush Weekly Prize - $200,000

According to
this interview
AOL will be giving away two $100,000 prizes every week throughout the Fall. The great news about this, is that you can win more than once. Heck, I'm not going to be greedy though, I'll take the cool $0.1 million, pay my taxes on it and walk, and I'm back awake again.
So how does the game work exactly? Here is a quote from the interview with Steines,
As an example of how it will work, Steines said, "If you watch 'CSI' tonight, a crime scene happens. There's a crime scene there. So, the next day you would go to AOL.com/gold rush, and there would be a virtual reality of that crime scene. The clues will be in there, and that's how you solve it."
I can't wait to start playing and I have already opened up a new forum to discuss the show. Start off by
introducing yourself to other players
and then
form a team
to help win the prize. Now get those DVR's ready to record a few CBS shows. Alternatively, you may want to familiarize yourself with
Innertube
.
Good luck everyone!

The following excerpt is the transcription of the welcome video that can be viewed from the
AOL Gold Rush website
. AOL Gold Rush is produced by Mark Burnett and is certain to be an awesome online adventure.
Will it top The Hunt from Volvo? They seem to think it will be the "greatest interactive experience of all time"
Mark Steines here welcome, glad you could make it. The count down to Gold Rush is on. Starting September 13th more than two million dollars in gold is up for grabs and everyday new online challenges give you the opportunity to, get rich. All you have to do is logon and play.
Winning, Oh winning is easy. All the answers to the challenges are buried within pop culture that means you’ll find hidden clues in TV shows and in magazines and songs and in the content on the new AOL.com. This is one contest where you can get rich using the very same information you’d get in an episode of, Entertainment Tonight.
Alright here’s how the game works. If you are one of the first players to complete all of the online challenges, we are going to send you straight to an exciting location where you’ll compete in a real live hunt for $100,000 in solid gold. It is the greatest interactive experience in history and it turns your pop culture knowledge into gold. Gold Rush only on the new AOL.com.
